Ok, so glancing through my friend's profiles, as usual, I noticed that my friend Jarrod from home had this in his profile:
"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."
I mean, I know I've seen it before, but just because other people also quote it doesn't make it any less pertinant. I feel like our rights ARE being violated with the Patriot Act, and it bothers me. I don't quite see how people can possibly support something like that, because really, how likely is it in my everyday life that I am going to be faced with a terrorist attack? I don't feel safer with the Patriot Act in place, I feel possibly more scared because goodness knows if I type the wrong thing into my websearch, I could end up stripped of my rights. Granted, I know I'm...well, am I exaggerating? Sneak and peek my ass.
